MORGAN -- Morgan County Council administrator Garth Day has been placed on unpaid leave while the sheriff investigates allegations of financial improprieties.
Council Chairman Sid Creager made the announcement in a statement Wednesday that didn't specify the nature of the investigation. The statement promises full support from the council.
The 41-year-old Day declined comment to the Ogden Standard-Examiner. His lawyer didn't respond to a newspaper request for comment.
Morgan County Sheriff Gene Ercanbrack told KSL the investigation has been ongoing for a few weeks and charges could be filed within the next two weeks.
Day became Morgan County's first-ever council administrator in June 2008 at a salary of $77,500 plus $450 in monthly transportation and cell phone allowances.
He's held development positions in Box Elder and Cache counties, and elected and hired positions in South Ogden, North Ogden and Ogden.
