SMITHFIELD, Utah (AP) -- Sky View High School suspended eight football players for drug or alcohol use.

The action comes just days before the Bobcats open the state playoffs.

There was no police involvement or failed drug tests, but Sky View (6-3) suspended the players under guidelines set by the Utah High School Activities Association. They will be suspended for two games.

If the Bobcats lose to Salt Lake City's East High School (7-3) on Friday night, the one game remaining on the suspensions will carry over to next season or the players' next varsity competition.

The coach admits the timing is bad, however, he says they're going to go forward and prepare for their Friday night game.
