SALT LAKE CITY (AP) -- Police in West Valley City have charged a man with raping a 9-year-old girl.
Armando Zepeda is being held in the Salt Lake County Jail in lieu of $100,000 bond on charges of first-degree child rape and aggravated sexual abuse of a child. If convicted, the 59-year-old West Valley City man faces up to life in prison.
Police say the girl had gone over to Zepeda's home on Friday to play with friends when she says he attacked her. She told her mother who found evidence of a sexual assault, took her daughter to the hospital and called police.
Zepeda's initial court appearance is scheduled for Monday before 3rd District Judge Vernice Trease.
