Keith McCord Reporting It’s a busy weekend at The South Towne Expo Center. It's the 7th annual Utah Senior Expo with everything from dancing, to big band music, to getting a flu shot.

Last year the Utah Senior Expo drew more than 7500 people, an expo record. This year even more people are expected. It's a chance for seniors to get information about healthcare, learn about new medicines, and even get flu shots.

165 companies and agencies have exhibit booths set up. The big topic around here this year is the new Medicare program, known as "Part D”, which deals with the costs of medicines. There are many questions.

Peter Hebertson, S.L. County Aging Services: "And in all fairness, it is a complicated program. There's 18 different companies and 44 different choices, and people need to be able to compare them side by side in order to make a decision. And that's what we're trying to do is help them strategize and help them on how to do that."

People need to enroll in the new program by November 7th. Speaking of medicine, a Canadian company is here to tell about its low cost prescriptions.

David Grossman, Meds Via Canada: "Our system is very simple: you order the medicine, you pay for it, you get it. There are no cards, no memberships, no fees, and in a lot of cases it's considerably cheaper than in the US."

Salt Lake County also recognized several people for their volunteer work, like Andrea Boone who was presented with the "Volunteer of the Year Award".

Andrea Boone, "Volunteer of the Year": “I am a retired social service worker for the state of Utah; and I'm a family service worker for the Red Cross, and I'm also on the disaster action team. I'm a team leader."

And that's only a few of things she's done the past year!

The Utah Senior Expo is free and runs through tomorrow afternoon.
