SALT LAKE CITY -- The Utah Highway Patrol has released the name of a man killed when he crashed his car into a semi truck on Interstate 215 Wednesday morning.
Police have identified that man as 71-year-old Donald Swenson of Sandy. Troopers say Swenson was driving the wrong way on the freeway around 9:45 a.m. when he slammed into a semi truck head on near 2300 East.
Troopers don't know why Swenson was going the wrong way, but say it's likely he was confused. The crash shut down a portion of the freeway for hours while crews worked to clean up the wreckage.
The semi truck driver, 51-year-old Kulwinder Singh of Livermore, Calif., is recovering at Intermountain Medical Center. He suffered a punctured lung and a head laceration in the crash.
