(KSL News) -- A Utah Olympic hopeful is recovering from surgery after a dangerous bobsled accident in Canada.

Noelle Pikus-Pace was injured when a boblsed slammed into her yesterday in the Calgary Olympic Park. She suffered a compound fracture to her right leg.

Surgeons inserted a steel rod in her leg last night to aid in her recovery.

Noelle issued a statement, saying, "All things happen for a reason and I'm still smiling and having a good time despite the circumstances..."

Noelle also says she plans to recover and compete in Torino.
