HOLLADAY -- Police are asking for help in identifying a man who broke into several businesses in the Millcreek-Holladay area early Monday morning. They say the suspect is targeting salons and spas.

Surveillance video from a tanning salon on 4500 South and 900 East shows an Audi pulling up to the front door. About five minutes later, it drives away.

Police believe the driver parked the car somewhere else, and then either he or the passenger returns. The suspect breaks a small window, crawls through it, and then rummages through the cash register and drawers.

The burglar only got away with some change, which was also the case at the other stores he hit.

"The amount, the property or valuables this particular person got as a result of all these crimes, was very minimal," said Unified police Lt. Don Hutson.

The crime was more vandalism than burglary at Hair Dynamics Salon at 2243 E. Murray Holladay Road. One of the stylists came to work Monday morning and discovered broken glass everywhere.

Robyn Hodges said the front door is double-bolted, so the burglar broke the glass near the main door and then used a crowbar to pry off the lock inside the salon.

"There were a few drawers opened up. It looked like they were looking for some quick cash," Hodges said. "Unfortunately for them, they didn't get anything."

"We are trying to figure out if this particular suspect that these businesses may have more cash than other types of businesses," Hutson said.

The burglar tried to cover his face. Police say he was in a newer-model, light-colored Audi.

Other businesses he hit are located at:

  • 2191 E. 3300 South
  • Two business adjacent to each other at 4689 S. Holladay Blvd (2300 E.)
  • 3355 S. Highland Dr.

If you have any information on this case, you're asked to call the Unified Police Department at 801-743-7000.
