WEST VALLEY CITY -- A group of Utahns got to participate in a race Sunday that was the first of its kind in the state.

Participants raced their small but high-powered radio-controlled boats on Decker Lake. It's the first sanctioned RC boat race in Utah.

Members of the Decker Dunkers Racing Association say they've been working for years to host these types of races. Now, they finally got their chance.

"We set up a course out here where we've got one or two or three buoys," said club president Karl Loveless. "We run around in circles for six laps. It's inside, outside, water everywhere -- it's a great time."

Loveless says while Sunday may have been the first official race, the club gathers at Decker Lake every weekend for unofficial races.
