SALT LAKE CITY (AP) -- Veteran prosecutor Carlie Christensen has been appointed for 120 days as U.S. attorney for Utah.

Christensen was acting U.S. attorney since the resignation of Brett Tolman on Dec. 31. She gained the full appointment from Attorney General Eric Holder and has been sworn in by Chief U.S. District Judge Tena Campbell.

The White House is searching for a permanent U.S. attorney for Utah.

Democratic Rep. Jim Matheson says Scott Burns is a candidate. Burns is a former Iron County attorney who served as deputy drug czar under President George W. Bush.

A spokeswoman for the U.S. attorney's office in Salt Lake City says Christensen's 120-day term is expected to provide time for President Barack Obama to make a nomination and for the U.S. Senate to act on it.
