WEST VALLEY CITY -- West Valley City police believe alcohol played a role in a crash that shut down a section of 3200 West Wednesday night.

Police say the driver of a red SUV was westbound near the intersection of 3200 West and Parkway Boulevard around 8:15 p.m. when he drove off the street and hit a curb. The SUV then went across the sidewalk and hit a power pole, knocking out electricity to some nearby businesses.
The intersection was shut for a few hours as utility crews repaired the line and restored power.
The driver, who officers believe was intoxicated, was taken to the hospital with minor injuries.
