(KSL News) -- A little boy who was lost for several hours last night is home and safe with his family this morning.
Police say it started with a mix up that could happen to anyone.
The mom didn't notice that the three year old had fallen asleep in the back of her truck. She asked her 11-year-old son to check in the backyard, and that son said he saw the boy playing.
The mom's daughter drove the truck to the Provo Towne Center mall. The three year old woke up and wandered inside. Mall security found him just a few minutes after he came in.
At that point the mom had realized the boy wasn't in the backyard. She figured out he'd stayed in the truck, but assumed he was with his sister. The mother couldn't reach the daughter on the phone.
A friend watching KSL actually called the family, saying they'd seen the boy's picture on the news, about the same time the daughter arrived back home without her brother.
The family rushed to the police station. The boy was unhurt.
