SANDY -- A Sandy middle school has become quite the musical place with the addition of new Caribbean steel drums.
Albion Middle School Assistant Principal Roberto Jimenez showed off the new huge steel drums in the schools music room Wednesday. He said he's no musician, but the students have quickly picked it up.
"They're fascinated," Jimenez said. "They love it."
Jimenez says Albion's music teacher got the drums through a $2,000 grant from the 100% for Kids Credit Union Education Foundation.
The drums have exposed the student to more kinds of music, but they are also being used to teach culture, social studies, science and language arts.
"There are many types of learning, not just reading and writing, and this will help with that," Jimenez said.
