(NBC News) -- Video games often get a bad rap, but one company says if you play your video games with their technology, you'll not only play better, you'll also learn about how your brain works.

Take the space program, add the latest video games, and you've got the makings of some powerful, albeit unusual technology that just might be the newest way to play.

Now granted, you've probably never hooked up wires and sensors, not to mention a bicycle helmet to play video games, but a company called cyber Learning says it's the newest way to play, on the cutting edge.

Domenic Greco, Ph.D. / CyberLearning: "We've taken NASA's technology, originally designed to work with pilots and improve attention in the cockpit, and translated that into a video game format."

A format that actually measures your brain waves while you play.

"I'm getting into this game."

And after studying gamers who agreed to get hooked up, CyberLearning says how you think affects how you play.

If you're agitated, you don't do as well as when you're calm. Not all that surprising, perhaps, but the results were the same for all age groups.

Domenic Greco, Ph.D. / CyberLearning: "The oldest we hooked up to the system and worked with video games were in their 80's. They had a blast doing it."

So now CyberLearning is selling it's odd-looking system, and people are Buying, tracking the way their brains move, and improving the way they Play.

The NASA-inspired game play is for sale.
