SANDY, Utah (AP) -- Real Salt Lake and the San Jose Earthquakes played to a scoreless tie Friday night in the first Major League Soccer game since the league took an unprecedented break for the World Cup group stage in South Africa.

Goalkeeper Nick Rimando stopped eight shots for RSL (7-3-3), including a short-range blast from San Jose's Cornell Glen on a breakaway opportunity in the 84th minute.

The draw snapped RSL's six-game home winning streak, but extended its unbeaten streak at Rio Tinto Stadium to a franchise-record 17 league games -- five short of the MLS record. Salt Lake also is undefeated (6-0-2) in its last eight games overall.

The Earthquakes (5-4-3) extended their winless streak to four games.

Regular starters Robbie Findley and Kyle Beckerman did not play for RSL. Findley is with the U.S. national team at the World Cup, while Beckerman is still recovering from an ankle injury.
