PROVO -- Primary elections historically don't have a big voter turnout, and Utah County officials say this year likely won't be any different.

Utah County Clerk/Auditor Bryan Thompson tells the Daily Herald he is expecting only 12 percent of voters to come to the polls. That compares to just over 10 percent two years ago.

Thompson says less than 1 percent of voters have participated in early balloting and that usually predicts how many people will show up on Election Day.

Quin Monson, with BYU's Center for the Study of Elections and Democracy, tells the paper he wouldn't be surprised if the percentage of voter turnout is below 10 percent.
