SALT LAKE CITY -- Salt Lake County is making good on a promise to lower Unified Police District fees.
The county has transferred $500,000 in sales tax revenues to the UPD. The fee reduction amounts to 3.8 percent, or an average of $6.75 a year per household.
The recession hammered sales tax revenues in the county, and the fee was established to fund a $13 million shortfall.
The county had vowed to lower the UPD fees as soon as more funding became available.
