TOOELE, Utah (AP) -- The Tooele Army Depot in Utah's west desert is installing a wind turbine to supply what officials hope will be one-quarter of its electricity.

Base spokeswoman Kathy Anderson says the $3.8 million project should be complete by July 1. A cement pad already has been poured above the base rifle range.

The turbine was approved in 2007 but more than two years of testing had to be done to make sure the site would get enough wind. Anderson says additional turbines may be installed if the first is successful.

The turbine will be 225 feet tall with each blade 130 feet long. The system is expected to produce 1.5 megawatts of electricity, providing a possible savings on energy costs of up to $125,000 a year.

The Department of the Army Energy Conservation Investment Program is funding the project.
