SALT LAKE CITY -- On Monday, state, city and county leaders joined together to urge Utah builders and residents to go green.

Architectural Nexus opened its new design center Monday, which will receive the first Platinum LEED rating from the U.S. Green Building Council in Salt Lake City.

The former gym now boasts an eco-friendly design and energy efficiency improvements that allow it to produce 70 percent of its own power.

Salt Lake County Mayor Peter Corroon said, "There's a little bit of irony to take a building known for human fitness and now it will be known for building fitness, a lean, physically-fit building instead."

The company also launched its "Share Our Knowledge" program to teach others how to become more energy efficient.
