PARLEY'S CANYON -- An accident in Parley's Canyon killed one man and closed eastbound Interstate 80 near Lamb's Canyon for hours Friday.
The accident happened at about 6:30 p.m. when a Fed-Ex truck traveling west crossed over into eastbound traffic. Utah Highway Patrol troopers say the truck may have lost its brakes.
"It crossed over into eastbound lances of travel and hit that small, blue vehicle and another vehicle that was headed eastbound up the canyon at the time. And the blue vehicle took the majority of the impact. It killed the driver on impact," said UHP Lt. Robert Anderson.
The victim was 74-year-old Michael Allen Park of Sandy.
The two people in the Fed-Ex truck received minor injuries and were transported to the hospital to be checked out.
UHP says weather may have also been a factor in the crash. It was raining at the time, and the road was slick.
An investigation is under way to determine any other factors involved.
