SALT LAKE CITY -- Sen. Orrin Hatch says he's disappointed to see Bob Bennett ousted after the state conventions, but he's offering his support for the eventual GOP nominee.

Hatch thinks Bennett deserves better.

"He's a very outstanding person and a good senator," Hatch said.

He points out Bennett was in position to become the ranking Republican on the banking committee. Still, he has no hard feelings to the two candidates in next month's primary.

"I'll be here and I will help them every step of the way if they want me to," he said.

On KSL Newsradio Monday morning, Hatch was asked about the anti-incumbent tide and his re-election bid in two years.

"Hopefully the folks in Utah recognize all the things that I've done for the state, for our country," he said.
