SALT LAKE CITY -- Hundreds gathered Wednesday at the Little America Hotel for the Utah Genius Awards. The awards honor people, cities and organizations who received new patents or trademarks within the past year.
Sheri Dew received the Lifetime Achievement Award for her innovation and creativity as CEO of Deseret Book.
Gov. Gary Herbert opened the awards luncheon and Doug Fabrizio of KUER radio was the keynote speaker.
Utah saw a record-breaking year in 2009 with more than 1,000 patents -- up almost 200 from the year before.
