Sammy Linebaugh reportingSome high profile cases are scheduled in Utah courts today.
At the Matheson Courthouse in downtown Salt Lake, four people charged in connection with the murder of Darla Woundedhead begin their legal battle with a scheduling hearing.
The expectant mother was shot last month at a Salt Lake motel. Her baby was delivered by emergency c-section two months early, and remains in newborn intensive care.
The four people charged in the case-- Kerri Dawn Armant, Andrea Martinez, Lawrence Clinton Valdez and Robert Everett Collins-- all face first degree murder and aggravated robbery charges.
Also today, in Utah County, trial begins for a Springville couple accused of killing their four-year old daughter by forcing her to drink too much water.
Richard and Jennette Killpack are charged with child abuse homicide. Their adopted daughter Kassandra died in June of 2002.
The couple says they forced her to drink the water as part of a recommended therapy to treat reactive detachment disorder.
And today, trial begins for Roger Wilkins, a former sign language instructor charged with attempted rape, sodomy and forcible sexual abuse for allegedly attacking an 18-year-old student.
That trial gets underway at 8:30 this morning. It will be a jury trial, as will the Killpack case.
