Tonya Paponikolas reportingThough only three Utahns died in the attacks on the Pentagon and World Trade Center four years ago, the events resonnated deeply with the people in the state.
They commemorated the event today in various ways.
At the Miners' Hospital in Park City, four horns sounded this morning to represent the four planes that crashed on September 11th.
Dana Williams, Park City Mayor: "It's one of those three or four incidents in someone's life where they will always remember what happened, where they were, what they were doing."
Representatives from the city's police and fire department helped commemorate the day, along with the Summit County sheriff and members of the United States Army.
Police Chief Lloyd Evans, Park City Police Dept: "Hard for me to put my arms around the events of that day."
Sheriff Dave Edmunds, Summit County: "There's a lot of sadness. Obviously there's hope that arises out of this, that maybe humanity will get better."
An AirMed helicopter flew over a sea of flags and a fire truck. The engine's driver rang its bell three times as the main flag was lowered to half mast as a tribute to those who lost their lives on that September day four years ago.
Sheriff Edmunds said he was honored to be part of a profession that understood the words "duty and honor", and he believed September 11th helped restore public faith in police and firefighters.
