Marc Giauque, KSL Newsradio Elections officials in Wasatch County today will begin going over signatures on a petition, aimed at stopping big-box retailers from coming to Heber city. But for some, the move may already be too late.
"Ah, I guess I'll just have to find some place else to live," said Rick Baker, a Heber City resident.
Baker and more than 100 others who live at a mobile home park now have just under 90 days to leave. The property is the focus of an effort by developers to bring in a big store like a Wal-Mart.
City Councilwoman Elizabeth Hokanson and all of her colleagues voted for an ordinance to allow some big-boxes in. She says they have not approved a specific location, but she says the idea is an important one.
Hokanson says money would help fund critical city services. She believes most support the plan, but petitioners want voters to have the final say.
