HOOPER -- A teenager mowing grass in a pasture behind his home hit a potentially explosive canister of TNT.

The Standard-Examiner reports 17-year-old Taylor Wood was mowing part of the pasture around 1 p.m. Sunday when the mower hit something. When Wood got a closer look, he discovered it was a small canister that said "TNT shell" on the side.

The family called police, who determined it was a can of explosives. His mother said the canister looked like a small can of tomato paste.

She said the family had never mowed that area of pasture in the seven years they have lived at their home on the 5700 block of 6500 West.

The Wood family is very grateful the mower only grazed the can. The device was turned over to Hill Air Force Base for disposal.

The Standard-Examiner reports officials will go over the pasture with metal detectors to make sure there aren't any other explosive cans hidden in the weeds.
