(Fallujah, Iraq-AP) -- The U-S military says coalition troops and Iraqi security forces are taking action against "criminal elements" in Karbala.

That's the same city where an American officer was killed in a firefight outside the home of a Muslim cleric last week.

The Central Command office in Baghdad refused to provide any other details on the latest operation.

Insurgents attacked U-S forces in the tense city of Fallujah for a second day Monday, killing one U-S soldier and wounded six others.

Two civilians were also killed in the clash, including one whose family said he was shot by the Americans after they detained and handcuffed him.

The Pentagon said it had no information on the claim.
