SALT LAKE CITY -- Thursday's performance may not have looked like a celebration of literacy, but teachers at Redwood Elementary School have a unique approach to helping their students read.
Seventy-five percent of the students there are learning English, so they interpret the books they've read as a class through music and dance. The movement brings books to life.
"It works because our kids don't speak English very well, so looking at pictures helps them comprehend what they're looking at, teaches them vocabulary words," says Principal Heather Nicholas.
Teachers say acting out what they've read also helps the students master the concepts.
