SALT LAKE CITY -- A Salt Lake woman is accused of forging checks, totaling more than $230,000, to steal from her former employer.

It was only after Mondis Nkoy was laid off that her replacement at Sun Optics discovered the fraud.

According to the Deseret News, Nkoy told police she would write checks to her false company -- American Pioneer Financial Services -- whenever she needed money. She said it was because she felt she didn't get paid enough.

Nkoy now faces second-degree felony theft charges and six counts of forgery, a third-degree felony.
