Sandra Yi reporting Iraqi immigrants here say today is a day worth celebrating. And that's exactly what they're doing.
Earlier today, one Iraqi said this is a celebration for Iraq and a new life for his country.
Many of them couldn't believe what they saw on television today. The pictures show people in Iraq pulling down a huge statue of Saddam Hussein and hacking at it with a sledgehammer.
One Iraqi says if he were in Baghdad, he would have done the same thing.
Iraqi immigrants here say they believe today is the day Saddam's regime is finally over.
They are grateful for the American soldiers, whom they say have freed their Arab brothers and sisters.
J.J., who is an Iraqi immigrant, says, "You've done the impossible dream for us. After 15 years, we're going to go back to visit our families. And hopefully, we're going to see a grea Iraq have a great relationship with everyone in the world. And God bless America, baby."
Again, a big celebration going on here outside the airport. Many of the cab drivers here are from Iraq.
They say as the days go on, there will be many more get togethers like this and in many cities across the country.
They know it will take time to rebuild Iraq, but hope for a better future for their country.
