(Salt Lake City-AP) -- Unidentified fingerprints found in the bedroom of Elizabeth Smart were compared to 84 thousand fingerprints on record -- including those of suspect Brian David Mitchell -- without a match ever being made.

Kevin Patrick, supervising criminalist of the identification section of the Utah Crime Lab, said, "Everybody and their dog was compared to those few unidentified fingerprints."

For the past nine months one person in the lab has been working exclusively on the case, and at least 15 others have participated in the investigation.

Patrick said it is rare for his staff not to find a match in a high-profile case like this one, but it does happen.
