SALT LAKE CITY -- Workers from Utah who helped in the relief efforts in Haiti are hoping to start the next phase of their efforts.
When David Studdert left Haiti with the Utah Hospital Task Force, he noticed the work wasn't even close to being finished.
"There was still the question, ‘What next?' How do we leave this situation there in such dire need of medical care?" he said.
That's when the idea of building the American Hospital of Haiti was born. Studdert says by the time he left Haiti, there were no hospitals standing that were fully intact.
"There were partial hospitals, but half of [the building] had collapsed and some of it needed to be fallen," he said.
Studdert says the group is trying to secure and buy land to build the hospital on. They hope to break ground in June and have it open by the one year anniversary of the quake.
