SALT LAKE CITY (AP) -- Having to mail in voter registration forms could soon be a thing of the past.
The Legislature on Thursday approved creation of an online voter registration system in an effort to increase voter turnout.
The new online system would eliminate the need to mail in signature forms or register in person at a county clerk's office. It would use digital signatures from driver's license records as verification.
Similar systems are already in place in Washington and Arizona.
Senate Bill 25 was approved in the House 58-to-14 and will now be sent to Gov. Jon Huntsman for his consideration.
