SALT LAKE CITY -- Lawmakers are gearing up for Wednesday's special legislative session. They plan to tackle issues like Medicaid funding, education funding, stimulus appropriations and private land subdivisions.
"There are 15 items on the call, but you need to understand, many of those are technical [issues] and will be rolled into a single bill," said House Speaker David Clark.
He and Senate President Michael Waddoups agree they should be able to handle it all quickly, even though Waddoups says $87 million of stimulus money needs to be appropriated.
"We appropriate some of it through appropriations after it has been determined and the governor's approved it," Waddoups said.
The ultimate authority on where that money will go is the governor.
Waddoups admits there will be a lot of talk about who the next lieutenant governor will be, but he says taking that job is not in his plans. Clark says he likes working as a representative too much to take the lieutenant governor's job.
