LAYTON, Utah (AP) -- A special convention will be held in Davis County to find a replacement for state Sen. Greg Bell, who has been chosen as Utah's new lieutenant governor.

Lt. Gov. Gary Herbert will become Utah's top executive now that Gov. Jon Huntsman has been confirmed as U.S. ambassador to China.

Herbert this week announced his choice of Bell, a Republican from Fruit Heights, to become the state's new lieutenant governor.

The Davis County Republican Party will call for a special election convention within 30 days of the time Bell resigns his Senate seat. It will likely be held later this month.

Bell still needs Senate confirmation, which is expected to come on Aug. 19.
