DRAPER -- Residents in Draper sounded off Tuesday night. At issue at the city council meeting -- whether to transfer ownership of a development agreement to a new developer of property adjacent to a new FrontRunner rail stop.
A few weeks ago UTA selected a site at 12800 South for the stop.
Residents expressed concerns about the "unlimited height and unlimited density" allowed for the new development, that the plan will damage critical open space and about a process they call mired in secrecy and conflicts of interest -- something both Draper and UTA strenuously denied.
"The political influences, they are there, and I really think UTA needs to be audited," said resident Mike Lund. "It's not just me calling for that. There have been state senators that have called for that. There are board members who have been involved in policy decisions that have conflicts of interest outside their jobs."
Resident Rebecca Macchione agreed. "To take this small piece of property and close it off and put a city on it in a place where it's very ill-conceived would be a shame for all the people in this state," she said.
Despite those concerns, the council voted to transfer the development agreement to Draper Holdings LLC.
