SALT LAKE CITY -- A top aide to Salt Lake City Mayor Ralph Becker has been chosen to replace state Sen. Scott McCoy.
McCoy has served in the Senate for the past five years, and he is the first open-gay man to serve there. On the issues, McCoy was known for taking on liberal causes, such as liquor reform.
Earlier this month, McCoy said he would step down to focus on his legal career and family. On Saturday, Salt Lake County Democratic delegates selected Becker aide Ben McAdams to fill his seat.
McAdams pledged to continue on in the same tradition as McCoy. His nomination still has to be confirmed by the governor.
