WEST VALLEY CITY — A woman died and a man is not expected to survive after an early-morning motorcycle crash in West Valley City, police said.

The crash took place about 12:30 a.m. Sunday near 5400 S. 7000 West, West Valley City police Lt. Jeff Conger said. The man and woman involved are in their 30s, he said.

A passerby saw the crashed motorcycle and called police, according to Conger.

It appeared that the motorcycle did not properly negotiate a turn and crashed, Conger said. High speed is being investigated as the cause of the crash, he added.

He did not know if the two people were wearing helmets.

The man was flown via a medical helicopter to a local hospital in critical condition. He is not expected to survive, Conger said.

He did not provide the names of either of the two people involved. Police were still notifying the family members of the woman who died, Conger said.
