SALT LAKE CITY — A Mississippi man wanted in connection with the death of his wife was arrested near Bear Lake on Thursday evening, officials said.

Charles Eugene Bowman, 61, was arrested in a campground on the east side of Bear Lake, officials with the U.S. Marshals Service Violent Fugitive Apprehension Strike Team said on Twitter.

A Department of Natural Resources agent saw Bowman near his car, and he was arrested without incident, officials said. He was found in the Rainbow Cove Campground at Bear Lake State Park, Rich County Sheriff's Office officials said on Facebook.

Bowman was seen in Salt Lake City last week on July 7 near 3300 S. 300 West, U.S. Marshals Service officials said Thursday in an emailed statement. He was seen in surveillance footage leaving a motel and driving a 2006 Nissan Maxima with handicapped Mississippi license plate D2745, the Marshals Service said.

More surveillance footage showed Bowman in downtown Salt Lake City on July 9, officials said. He was wearing a black U.S. Navy hat with sunglasses and a blue polo shirt.

Marshals believe Bowman was using hotels in Salt Lake City, as well as campgrounds within an hour of the city. He was thought to be armed and dangerous, according to the Marshals Service.

Bowman’s wife was last seen alive on May 17, but her remains were found on the couple’s property in southwest Mississippi.
