ZION NATIONAL PARK — Several roads have been closed in Zion National Park after the area received 3 inches of rain in a short period of time, officials said.

There also were several rock and debris slides on the switchbacks before the Zion-Mt. Carmel tunnel on the southeast side of the park, National Park Service officials said in an emailed statement.

Zion Canyon Scenic Drive was closed as of 10 p.m. Wednesday. The park road also is closed indefinitely between Canyon Junction and the east entrance of the park.

Much of the park is under a flash flood warning until 10:45 p.m., according to the National Weather Service. Flooding is expected in the Clear Creek drainage area, as well as the north and east forks of the Virgin River in the park, officials said.

Flooding is expected to continue until late Wednesday evening.
