HYRUM — Officials on Monday identified a teen who drowned after jumping off a cliff at Hyrum Reservoir Friday.

Judd Miller, 18, from Garland, Utah, was with about 40 other teens, jumping off the "Big Toe" cliff into the reservoir, according to Cache County Sheriff Chad Jensen. A witness reported that Miller jumped from the cliff and struggled to swim after he surfaced from the jump. He then went back underwater and didn't resurface. Rescue crews responded and recovered his body about 8:30 p.m., Friday.

Miller was born in Logan and raised in North Garland along with four older siblings. According to his family, he was full of life and had a love of sports, music and dancing.

"He had a great sense of humor and never tired of making others laugh," his obituary says. "His contagious smile, laughter and uplifting spirit will truly be missed. Judd was loving, happy, respectful and a friend to everyone. His enthusiasm and positivity rubbed off on others."

Miller was set to graduate June 1 from Bear River High School, and had received an LDS mission call to serve in Pachuca, Mexico. Funeral services will be held Thursday at 11 a.m. at the Garland Tabernacle. The family has asked that in lieu of flowers, donations be sent to the LDS Church General Mission Fund.
