BRIGHAM CITY — One person died and another person was flown to the University of Utah Burn Center in critical condition after a trailer home caught fire Tuesday morning, authorities said.

Emergency crews responded to a report of a trailer home fire at 1060 S. Main shortly before 8:45 a.m., Brigham City Fire Chief Joseph Bach said.

When crews arrived, they found the single-wide trailer engulfed, with flames coming from the front room windows and the roof of the structure. A resident in the home told authorities there was another person inside the home.

"There was no way any firefighters were going to go inside — it was too dangerous at that point," he said. "We had to get the fire knocked down first and then we found the body in there."

The resident who flagged down authorities was taken to Brigham City Community Hospital and then flown to Salt Lake City. Their names and ages were not released.

The cause of the fire is under investigation, but caused an estimated $50,000 in damage, authorities said. Crews from Corinne and Willard fire departments assisted in putting out the fire, which was extinguished a little more than 15 minutes after crews arrived on scene.

Neighboring trailers were briefly evacuated while crews worked on putting out the blaze. No other injuries were reported.

Bach said the trailer did not have any working smoke detectors at the time of the fire.

“Property owners are strongly advised to assure they have working smoke detectors on each level of the living space, in each bedroom and in hallways,” he said.
