WEST VALLEY — Two construction workers are in critical condition after receiving an electrical shock while working in West Valley Tuesday morning, officials said.
Emergency crews responded to the site near 3570 S. Market St. about 8 a.m., according to a tweet from the West Valley City Fire Department.
The construction crew was loading steel onto a structure using a crane when witnesses said they saw a blue flash. Two of the workers fell, but their harnesses caught them, according to West Valley City Police Lt. Justin Wyckoff.
Another worker ran for help to the adjacent West Valley Police Department, and officers performed CPR until firefighters arrived on scene.
Both workers were transported to local hospitals.
The accident is currently under investigation. Officials are not yet sure whether the shock was caused by lightning or static electricity.
