SALT LAKE CITY — A man was critically injured after a driver hit him and then drove off early Sunday morning, according to police.

The man was hit near 1100 W. North Temple about 3:15 a.m. Sunday, according to Salt Lake City Police Lt. Mark Buhman. The man was taken to a local hospital in critical condition, Buhman said.

Before the crash, the man had been involved in a domestic dispute near 775 W. North Temple. He then decided to start driving west on North Temple, but crossed over a TRAX barrier and hit a pole, Buhman said.

The man got back on the road and continued driving for a short time, but his car was so heavily damaged that it died near 1100 West.

The man then got out of his car and was struck by another vehicle, Buhman said.

The driver in the other car did not stop after hitting the man. The vehicle is described as possibly a silver four-door Acura, Buhman said.

As of noon on Sunday, the victim’s condition had stabilized, Buhman said. He did not provide the man’s name, but said the man was being investigated for DUI.
