SANDY — Officials are investigating a threat posted on Instagram targeting Indian Hills Middle School, but say they have no reason to believe it’s credible.

The threat came Thursday evening from an Instagram account with username “ihms2017,” according to Canyons School District spokesman Jeff Haney; the account has since been deactivated.

District officials are asking anyone with a screenshot of the post or any other information about the possible threat to email it to communications@canyonsdistrict.org or doug.graham@canyonsdistrict.org.

Haney said there were initial reports of messages sent from the ihms2017 account that could be perceived as being threatening, and they were directed at Indian Hills Middle School.

“We have determined that the account from the post came from has been deactivated. This leads us to believe that the threat is not entirely credible,” Haney said.

When asked if there was any other reasoning that caused officials to dismiss the credibility of the threat, Haney repeated that officials could not "verify that the threat was credible.”

He did not give any further reasoning or additional information on the case.

District officials received at least six tips about the possible threat through the Safe UT app on Thursday evening, Haney said. District officials, along with police, were still investigating the situation as of 10 p.m.

There will be an increased police presence at Indian Hills Middle School on Friday, and district officials will be working with school resource officers to process any other tips, Haney said.

He also said district officials would be sending out more information to parents on Thursday night.
