COLD SPRING, Minnesota — Two Utah men were killed and one woman was critically injured after a Wednesday morning crash in central Minnesota, officials said.
Cody Randall, 30, and J.D. Randall, 24, of Washington City, died in the crash, which took place at about 8 a.m., according to an emailed statement from Stearns County (Minnesota) Sheriff Don Gudmundson.
Katie Seegmiller, 15, also of Washington City, was critically injured in the crash, Gudmundson said.
The three Utahns were driving south in a 2008 Mitsubishi Gallant near the intersection of Stearns County Road 2 and Island Lake Road, about 3 miles northeast of the town of Cold Spring, Gudmundson said.
The driver of the Mitsubishi appeared to lose control of the car, which veered into the northbound lanes, the sheriff said. The car crashed into a northbound 2002 Buick Lesabre driven by Sandra Hansen, 64, of Cold Spring.
The crash sent the Mitsubishi off the road and into a ditch on the east side of the road, where the car rolled, Gudmundson said.
Cody and J.D. Randall were both ejected from the car. Medical personnel at the scene attempted to save them, but both were pronounced dead at the scene, Gudmundson said.
Seegmiller had to be extricated from the vehicle by a fire crew. She was airlifted to a hospital in critical condition, Gudmundson said.
Hansen was extricated from the Buick, and she was transported by ambulance to a local hospital, where she was in stable condition, Gudmundson said.
The crash was still under investigation as of Wednesday afternoon, Gudmundson said.
