HUNTSVILLE, Weber County — Two skiers — a brother and a sister — were sent to hospitals after an in-bounds avalanche at Snowbasin ski resort Sunday afternoon, according to the Weber County Sheriff's Office.
The sister, who is 23 years old, was buried under about 4 to 5 feet of snow for an estimated 5 to 10 minutes, said Sgt. Terance Lavely.
People skiing nearby saw the avalanche and took note where they last saw the woman. They began digging immediately and the woman was located by ski patrol, Lavely said. Once she was recovered, she was flown to a hospital. She suffered only sore muscles, Lavely said.
The woman's 35-year-old brother rode out the avalanche but broke a rib and had sore muscles. He was transported to the hospital by ambulance, Lavely said.
The incident occurred shortly after 3 p.m. in the No Name area of the resort.
