WEST VALLEY CITY — A man was arrested after he sprayed another man with pepper spray and tried to rob him at an ATM Sunday, officials reported.
At around noon, a man was taking cash out of a Mountain America Credit Union ATM near 3000 South and 5600 West when another man, later identified as 29-year-old Carlos Delgado, approached him and sprayed pepper spray in his face, according to West Valley City Police Lt. Jeff Conger. Delgado then tried to rob the man but was unsuccessful and fled the area in a gold Nissan.
A short time later, an officer spotted the Nissan near 3600 S. Parkway Ave. and pulled the vehicle over. Delgado was taken into custody, Conger said. Officials also found drugs and drug paraphernalia in the car.
Delgado was booked into Salt Lake County Jail on suspicion of attempted robbery and possession of drugs and drug paraphernalia.
The victim did not have any serious injuries from the attempted robbery. He had some pepper spray in his mouth but none in his eyes, Conger said. Fire department personnel washed the victim's face with water and he is expected to be OK.
