IVINS — An elderly, bedridden woman is dead and her family member was injured after a fire that started in a back bedroom destroyed a home Sunday evening.

St. George and Santa Clara fire crews responded to the blaze at 132 W. 100 North at about 7 p.m., according to Santa Clara Fire Department Chief Dan Nelson. A family member tried to help the bedridden woman out of the house but was burned in the process. The elderly woman did not make it out of the house and died, Nelson said.

The family member was taken to a hospital for treatment. Details about the individual’s medical condition were not immediately available.

As of Sunday night, several pets were unaccounted for. Nelson said the home is a total loss.

Officials have not released the deceased woman’s identity, pending family notification.
