SALT LAKE CITY — A Salt Lake man who made more than $10 million illegally selling guns over the internet and from his basement is heading to federal prison.
Adam Michael Webber, 40, will spend the next four years behind bars for dealing in firearms without a license and filing fraudulent tax returns.
Webber owned an online gun parts business, HK Parts, and added guns to his product line in 2008 despite reaching an agreement with the government the year before that barred him from selling guns. He also sold guns and parts from the basement of his house.
For three years, Webber sold guns through a company owned by another person, including twice to undercover Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives agents. One was a cash deal in a parking lot.
In May 2012, agents seized $180,000 in cash, a 70-pound silver bar, silver coins and guns from Webber's home.
Authorities say Webber grossed more than $10 million from illegal gun and parts sales, and underreported his income to the IRS. He paid $670,000 in cash for a new home in Salt Lake County.
A jury convicted Webber of the tax offenses in September 2016. He later pleaded guilty to the firearms charge. Webber repaid $1.8 million to the IRS before he was sentenced. He also agreed to give up more than 300 seized guns.
In addition to the four-year prison term, Judge Dee Benson ordered him to serve three years probation after his release and pay a $100,000 fine.
