ROY — A woman said Friday she faced several more weeks of recovery after a dog attacked her earlier in the week, leaving her arm swollen and mangled.
Jillian Quick said she was visiting a friend’s place Tuesday when the pit bull suddenly sank its teeth into her right arm.
“(It) grabbed my arm, started vice gripping down, and by the time I realized it had punctured through the skin, it was starting to lock on and starting to shake,” Quick said.
The dog continued to bite harder until a man at the home intervened, giving her time to escape, Quick said.
“About 5 minutes later the guy came out and he had blood from his elbows down to his hands and said that the dog was dead,” she recalled.
Quick said the dog had continued to attack the man as well after she broke free.
Pictures taken afterward showed large gashes and exposed flesh near Quick’s elbow.
“There were five bite marks from the dog crawling up my arm because he was trying to get up to my neck,” Quick said, referencing her arm. “It went all the way through to my bone — that’s why the drainage clogs are there.”
Bob Quick, Jillian’s father, said he drove his daughter to the fire station on 1900 West, where the first-responders quickly attended to the woman on the way to the hospital.
He said he was grateful to firefighters once again.
“13 years ago, I died (and) paramedics here brought me back,” said the father, who has since undergone 25 heart surgeries and has received 18 stents. “You know, these guys are like family.”
Jillian Quick said she was also thankful to the crew members who helped her when she was in need.
“Make sure you reach out and thank them because they’re your local heroes,” Quick said.
